Dal Lake
Dal Lake is situated in the hub of the modern city of Srinagar, the summer capital of the State. The urban lake is 8 km long and 4 km wide which makes it the second largest in the state is integral to tourism and recreation in Kashmir and is nick named as Srinagar's Jewel.
Shalimar Bagh
Built by Emperor Jehangir for his wife Nur Jehan, Shalimar, is a beautiful garden with sweeping vistas over gardens and lakes, and shallow terraces. The garden has four terraces and a canal lined with polished stones and supplied with water from Harwan runs through the middle of the garden.
Nishat Bagh
Situated on the banks of the Dal Lake, with the Zabarwan Mountains as its backdrop,this 'garden of bliss' commands a magnificent view of the lake and the snow capped Pir Panjal mountain range which stands far away to the west of the valley. Nishat was designed in 1633 AD by Asaf Khan, brother of Nur Jehan.
Chashma Shahi
Chashma Shahi has tastefully laid garden in terraces, which commands a magnificent view of the Dal Lake below and surrounding mountain ranges. The cool water of the spring is highly refreshing and digestive. By the side of Chashma Shahi Garden are huts where some of the state government officials.
Hazratbal Shrine
The Hazratbal Shrine is located on the western shores of Dal lake (Bud Dal). When Emperor Shah-i-Jahan visited the place in 1634, he was highly pleased to see it and desire to call it as Ibadat Mahal. Necessarry changes were accordingly made in the building as per the orders of the Emperor Aurangzeb, that it housed the relic of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
Nigeen Lake
Leading from the Dal is the smaller Negeen Lake. Here too, the waters are edged by trees of willow and poplar whose reflection is mirrored in the lake. 'Bathing boats' here, as well as on the Dal, hire out water-skis and motor launches. The waters of the lakes are pleasantly cool from mid-May to mid-September.
Harvan
Harwan is about 21 km from Srinagar. It is a historic place and many remains of the past have been found during the excavations. The specialty of the Harwan monuments is that they are the only remains of their kind in India (possibly in the world), and that they supply a life-like representation of the features of those mysterious people, the Kushans.
Shankracharya
The temple is situated in the Srinagar district at a height of 1100 ft. above surface level on the hill known as Takht-e-Suleiman. The great philosopher Shankaracharya is supposed to have stayed here when he visited Kashmir to revive Sanatan Dharma. The Shankracharya Mandir is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is thought to be the oldest shrine in the Kashmir valley.
Manasbal Lake
Manasbal Lake is located about 30 km north of Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K. Manasbal is considered as the 'supreme gem of all Kashmir lakes' with lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) nowhere more abundant or beautiful than on the margins of this lake during July and August. It is the deepest lake of Kashmir valley and perhaps the only one that develops stable summer stratification.
Yusmarg
One hour drive from Srinagar, this idyllic meadow is ideal for a day's picnic or a short walk along the mighty 'Doodh Ganga' river, its name deriving from its milk white foam. Picnic on its banks or simply doze in the sun. A starting point for many peaks like 'Trata Kutti' and 'Sang-safed' - this is a trekkers base.Yusmarg is approximately 47 km from the Srinagar and lies in the Badgam district of Jammu and Kashmir
Pari Mahal
Pari Mahal or The Fairies' Abode is a seven terraced garden located at the top of Zabarwan mountain range over-looking city of Srinagar and south-west of Dal-Lake. The architecture depicts an example of Islamic architecture and patronage of art during the reign of the then Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. It is five-minute drive from Cheshmashahi, Srinagar.
Gulmarg
Gulmarg is a town, a hill station, a popular skiing destination and a notified area committee in Baramula district of Jammu and Kashmir.The town is within the Himalayas and is located 52 km from Srinagar.This resort is famous because of its "Gulmarg Gondola," one of the highest cable car in the world, reaching 3,979 metres.
Pahalgam
This world famous hill station is 45 km. from the District Head Quarter at Anantnag and located on the banks of Lidder River at an altitude of 7200 ft. from sea level. A number of treks in this region also begin from Pahalgam, as the 35 km trail traverses through pinewoods to the spectacular Kolahoi Glacier.
Sonamarg
Sonamarg, which means ' meadow of gold ' has, as its backdrop, snowy mountains against a cerulean sky. A close by excursion is to Baltal, 15 km East of Sonamarg. This little valley lies at the foot of the Zojila, only a day's journey away from the sacred cave of Amarnath is a base camp for Amarnath yatra.
Pangong lake
Pangong Lake is situated in the northeast of Leh, 4,350 meters above sea level. Leh to Pangong Lake is nice adventure trip of 160 trips. It begins with Thiksey village famous for its huge monasteries ridge. Beyond this remote village there is nothing but the extreme mountain ridge.
Nubra Valley
The beautiful Nubra valley with its breathtaking views transports you back into a nearly forgotten 'Shangri La'. Once the trading route that connected eastern Tibet with Turkistan via the famous Karakoram Pass, it is one of the most recently opened area of Ladakh.
